Course description

This course aims to develop further the language and academic skills of students who have already attended four semesters of English for business. Students are exposed to authentic texts including popularised and academic research articles on various business related topics such as marketing, advertising, and culture and business. They have the opportunity to practice further all four skills, that is, speaking, listening, reading and writing. More specifically students are encouraged to participate actively in classroom activities so that they can practice both general and academic English.  With reference to reading skills, particular emphasis is given on critical reading and genre awareness. Writing summaries and essays following the appropriate academic conventions and receiving feedback constitutes a major part of the course.

At the end of the course students have the opportunity, if they wish so, to develop further all skills and micro-skills by making a power-point presentation based on a topic of their choice.  This will in addition equip them with the presentation skills and confidence required to make presentations in English in their postgraduate studies and in Erasmus courses abroad.  Instructions as to how to prepare and present the project following the necessary academic conventions can be found on eclass and are explained further during classes.

Assessment is based on final exam +class participation or

Powerpoint presentation+participation
