
Catherine Spiliopoulou is an instructor of English Language and Literature. She has studied at the Universities of Southampton (Ph.D., 1989, M.A., 1985) and Athens (B.A., 1983). Appointments held were at the Polytechnic of Central London and the Diplomatic Staff Training Service of the Foreign Office in London (Visiting Lecturer of Modern Greek as a Foreign Language, 1988-1989). In Greece she has worked as an English Language Instructor at the Military School of Foreign Languages in Athens (1989-1992), in Public High Schools and as an associate at the Laboratory of Sociology and Education in the Early Childhood Department of Education of the University of Patras (1993-2002). She has also taught Modern Greek as a Foreign Language to Erasmus students in the Departments of Medicine and Biology and has worked as a principal translator for the edition of an English-Greek Dictionary published by Collins. Since June 2002 she is holding a permanent position as an instructor of English for Special Purposes (ESP) at the Foreign Language Unit of the University of Patras. Her research interests include issues relevant to vocational education and training, adult education, English Terminology for Academic Purposes and English Literature.
