
Foreign languages and cultures
Τhe following languages are taught at the Foreign Language Unit:
- English for Specific and Academic Purposes (tailored instruction per academic department of the University of Patras
- French (interdepartmental – all levels of CEFR)
- German (interdepartmental – all levels of CEFR)
- Russian (interdepartmental – all levels of CEFR)
- Spanish (in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Athens – mainly A1/A2 level of CEFR for approximately sixty students at the University who submit a successful application for admission at the Foreign Language Unit and the Cervantes Institute)
For French, German, and Russian, instruction is adjusted according to the needs of the learners. Beginner-level courses are offered in all three languages.
Spanish instruction generally begins at level A1.
The courses offered within the framework of the established study programmes are provided to students free of charge. As of the 2026–2027 academic year, the University plans to introduce additional courses offered outside the formal study programmes. These courses will be open to all members of the university community and will be subject to a tiered tuition fee structure.
