This course is designed to equip pharmacy students with the linguistic and academic tools necessary to engage confidently with the global pharmaceutical community while also fostering critical academic skills essential for university study and professional development. Through a range of d scientifically relevant topics, students will build the vocabulary and skills needed to discuss core areas of pharmacy in English. Emphasis is placed on academic reading, basic research techniques, and citation practices, helping students to navigate scholarly sources and present their findings with clarity and integrity. Topics covered include how drugs work, drug nomenclature, drug development, and green chemistry. Students will also learn to describe scientific data and trends, understand the structure and basics of academic texts and deliver structured presentations.
Parallelly, the course cultivates soft skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, and communication. By the end of the course, students will not only be familiar with key pharmaceutical terminology but will also be able to apply academic skills like source evaluation, paraphrasing, and citation in English with confidence.Instructor:

The course focuses on the development of academic and professional English within the context of health sciences. Designed to strengthen both language competence and workplace readiness, the course emphasizes understanding and using specialized vocabulary and terminology through engaging, up-to-date content. Students work with a range of authentic texts and multimedia materials that explore emerging topics in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences, such as 3D-printed drugs, generative AI in drug design, robotics in aseptic filling, bioethics, advanced pharmaceutical production that provide context for academic language use and ethical reflection. Emphasis is also placed on academic skills and workplace skills essential for university-level study and professional development, including summarizing, paraphrasing, analyzing and composing academic texts and presenting health-related research,. Instruction combines face-to-face learning with interactive and digital tools. By the end of the course, students will be able to communicate confidently in English in both academic and health-related professional environments.
